Babagana Umara Zulum has condemned the explosion that occurred in parts of Maiduguri metropolis on Monday evening.

The Governor, who is currently in Saudi Arabia for the Lesser Hajj, described the attack as despicable, cruel and cowardly, noting that it targeted innocent people during the holy month of Ramadan.

In a statement issued by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Dauda Iliya, residents were urged to remain vigilant and adopt heightened security consciousness, particularly in places of worship and other public areas as the festive period approaches.

Governor Zulum expressed deep sadness over the incident and sympathised with the families of the victims as well as those injured in the blast.

He noted that the recent surge in attacks may not be unconnected with the intensified military operations against insurgents in the Sambisa forest and other hideouts.

The Governor, however, assured residents that the military and other security agencies are on top of the situation, adding that adequate measures have been put in place to prevent further security breaches in Maiduguri and across the state.

Governor Zulum called on residents to remain calm, continue with their lawful activities and promptly report any suspicious movements or activities to security agencies.
