The Borno State Police Command has rescued a six-year-old boy who was allegedly kidnapped in Maiduguri and arrested a suspect in connection with the crime.

The victim, identified as Alkali Musa of Mafoni area of Maiduguri, was reported missing after he left home to play on June 6, 2026, and failed to return.

According to the police, preliminary investigations revealed that shortly after the child's disappearance, a suspect contacted the boy's parents and demanded a ransom of N200,000 for his release.

Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer of Lamisula Division deployed detectives who launched an intelligence-driven operation to track down the suspect and locate the child.

The operation led to the arrest of a suspect, Ali Alhaji Ali, and the successful rescue of the victim unharmed. Police said the suspect confessed to the crime during interrogation.

The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajid, commended the officers involved in the operation and reassured residents of the command's commitment to protecting lives and property across the state. He also urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
