Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has approved the provision of Hadaya, sacrificial rams, for 1,725 indigent pilgrims from the state currently performing the 2026 Hajj in Saudi Arabia.
Hadaya is an important Islamic rite observed during Hajj, particularly for pilgrims undertaking Hajj al-Tamattu and Hajj al-Qiran. The ritual involves the sacrificial slaughter of a ram or other approved livestock in line with Islamic injunctions.
The sacrifice, usually carried out during the days of Tashreeq, from the 10th to the 12th of Dhul Hijjah, symbolises obedience to Allah as demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim (AS), while also serving as a means of supporting the needy through the distribution of meat to poor residents and pilgrims in the holy cities.
In addition to the Hadaya support, Governor Zulum also provided free Ihram garments for male pilgrims and khimar, head coverings, for female pilgrims from Borno State.
The governor further paid hotel differentials to ensure more comfortable accommodation for the state’s pilgrims in Makkah.
Governor Zulum has consistently supported indigent pilgrims over the years by funding Hadaya, ensuring that beneficiaries are able to complete all mandatory Hajj rites without financial difficulty.
He also urged the pilgrims to intensify prayers for lasting peace, stability and prosperity in Borno State and Nigeria as a whole.
