At least 23 people have been confirmed dead while 108 others sustained injuries following three suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosions in Maiduguri.

The incidents occurred at about 7:24 p.m. on Monday at Monday Market Maiduguri, the gate of University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, and the Post Office Flyover area.

According to the Nigeria Police Force in Borno State, preliminary investigations indicate that the attacks were carried out by suspected suicide bombers.

Security operatives, including Police Tactical Units and the military, were immediately deployed to the affected locations to secure the scenes and prevent further threats. The Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit also conducted sweep operations in the areas.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Naziru Abdulmajid, visited the scenes of the explosions to assess the situation and commiserate with victims and their families.

Emergency responders, including the National Emergency Management Agency and the Borno State Emergency Management Agency, evacuated the injured victims to medical facilities where they are currently receiving treatment.

Authorities say normalcy has been restored in the affected areas, while security has been intensified across Maiduguri and surrounding communities to forestall further incidents.

The police also urged residents to remain calm and vigilant and to report any suspicious movement or objects to the nearest security agency as investigations continue.
