Borno Government Re-establishes Two Schools in Marte LGA

The Borno State Government has re-established Government Day Secondary School (GDSS) New Marte and Garadai Junior Secondary School in Marte Local Government Area as part of efforts to restore education in communities affected by insurgency. On behalf of Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, the Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Engineer Lawan Abba Wakilbe, commissioned a newly constructed and fully equipped block of twenty classrooms at GDSS New Marte. The development marks the reopening of the school after about twelve years of closure due to insurgency.

The Borno State Government has re-established Government Day Secondary School (GDSS) New Marte and Garadai Junior Secondary School in Marte Local Government Area as part of efforts to restore education in communities affected by insurgency.

On behalf of Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, the Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Engineer Lawan Abba Wakilbe, commissioned a newly constructed and fully equipped block of twenty classrooms at GDSS New Marte.

The development marks the reopening of the school after about twelve years of closure due to insurgency.

Engineer Wakilbe was received in New Marte by the Executive Chairman of Marte Local Government Area, Babagana Abatcha.

During the visit, the Commissioner also commissioned a fully furnished block of ten classrooms at Garadai Junior Secondary School to enhance access to education in the area.

To support the take-off of the schools, the Ministry of Education provided fifty desktop computers, one hundred digital tablets, school uniforms, school bags and textbooks for students.

A daily school feeding programme has also been introduced, while a take-off grant of two million naira was provided to support the smooth running of the schools.

The Commissioner also inspected the ongoing construction of the Higher Islamic College in Marte and assured the community that the project would be completed soon.

Engineer Wakilbe was accompanied on the visit by the Permanent Secretary, Pensions and AGILE Coordinator, Engineer Ibrahim Baba; the Secretary of the Borno State Secondary Education Board, Mala Abatch; the Director of Quality Assurance Services at SUBEB, Kachalla Ali; and the Deputy Director of Planning in the Ministry of Education, Engineer Abdulrahman Kaka, among other officials.
