The development was announced in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
The President received the resignation on Monday and commended Mr. Egbetokun for his decades of distinguished service to the Nigeria Police Force and the nation, noting his dedication, professionalism, and commitment to strengthening internal security during his tenure.
Mr. Egbetokun, who was appointed in June 2023, was serving a four-year term expected to end in June 2027 under the amended provisions of the Police Act.

The President expressed confidence that AIG Disu’s experience, operational depth, and leadership capacity would provide stable and effective direction for the Police Force at this critical time.
In line with the provisions of the Police Act 2020, President Tinubu will convene a meeting of the Nigeria Police Council to formally consider AIG Disu’s appointment as substantive Inspector-General of Police, after which his name will be forwarded to the Senate of Nigeria for confirmation.
The President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving national security, strengthening institutions, and ensuring that the Nigeria Police Force remains professional, accountable, and well-equipped to perform its constitutional duties.
